Yentafo Tom Yum

Yentafo tom yum

A noodle soup you recognise by its pink colour, here in its tom yum version: sour, spicy and fragrant, topped with seafood and fish balls.

Yentafo tom yum, pink noodle soup with seafood, fish balls and greens, at Thai Yim 2 in Paris 13

Origins

Yentafo belongs to the large family of Sino-Thai noodle soups, dishes handed down by Thailand’s Chinese community that have become street-food staples. Its signature is instantly visible: a pink hue that comes from fermented red tofu, a condiment that is both slightly tangy and full of umami.

Traditionally, yentafo brings together noodles, seafood, fish balls, tofu and morning glory in one bowl. It is a complete, comforting dish, with every topping adding its own texture.

The tom yum version

The tom yum version we make turns up the bright flavours: the broth is spicy and sour, in the spirit of the famous tom yum, without losing the character of yentafo. Our Thai customers ask for it a lot — for them, it tastes like home.

At Thai Yim 2

At Thai Yim 2, we serve it with seafood, fish balls and morning glory. The dish also comes in a classic, less spicy version if you would rather discover yentafo gently (spice 2/4). From €13, eat in near Olympiades or take away.
