ข้าวมันไก่ทอด
Khao Man Kai Tod
Khao Man Kai Tod
Crispy fried chicken on rice fragrant with garlic and ginger: a golden take on a much-loved everyday classic, mild and comforting.
Origins
Khao man kai is one of Thailand’s best-loved rice dishes. Inherited from Hainanese cooking and long since adopted by Thai street food, it rests on a simple but demanding idea: rice cooked in a broth flavoured with garlic and ginger, served with chicken and a sauce that makes all the difference.
The ‘tod’ version swaps the poached chicken for fried chicken, crisp outside and tender inside. The contrast between the golden skin, the fragrant rice and the punchy sauce is what makes it so satisfying.
At Thai Yim 2
At Thai Yim 2, we serve it with rice flavoured with garlic and ginger and a sweet, lightly spicy sauce you can add as you like. The dish is mild by default (spice 0/4) — ideal for a filling lunch or for introducing cautious palates to Thai food.
